Psalm 19:14, “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Both Matthew 12:34 and Luke 6:45 record for us Jesus’ words, “… for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.”

Proverbs 23:7 is an interesting verse, it read, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.”

We all have an outward persona that we let others see, but is that the real you?

Let’s review these verses briefly.

Jesus told us that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.  What do you speak about?  Self, family, money, things, Jesus, church, problems, toys, politics, etc.?  When in certain situations we tend to adapt our speech to those situations, but when you are not thinking about your speech what are you talking about?

Solomon revealed to us in Proverbs 23:7 that sometimes a man’s speech is not what he is really thinking. We sometimes speak about one thing while thinking about another.  We put on a false front.  Whether to hurt others or simply to cover up for ourselves.

In Psalm 19:14 the psalmist wants his words and his thoughts to please God.  They need to be consistent and they need to be God-honoring.  Acceptable to God.

Do your words and and your thoughts honor the Lord Jesus?  What do you think about as you go through your day?  I will pause here for a moment and let you meditate on your words and your thoughts.  Are they acceptable in God’s sight?

If you find a problem here, would you bow before the Lord Jesus right now and ask Him to forgive you of your poor thoughts and speech and to help you honor Him in your future speech?

Why not memorize Psalm 19:14, ““Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.”
